Through the Department of Curriculum Development and Evaluation of MoBE, Prof Gabanamotse-Mogara, Prof Anderson Chebanne and myself (Prof KC Monaka) obtained a grant of P580 000.00 from the Ministry of Basic Education (MoBE) and UNICEF for processes in regard to the development of local languages for use in schools. Through this grant we, together with staff from Department of Curriculum Development and Evaluation, conducted country-wide consultations on the implementation of the Draft Languages Policy in Education, capacitated teachers to produce literacy materials for 13 indigenous languages and facilitated in the production of primers for Reception and Standard 1 classes.
