Description

Course Synopsis
This course introduces students to the morphological structure of English and further teaches learners how to analyse any natural language morphologically. The course investigates the phonology/morphology interface, expounding on how affixes transform into allomorphs, and explains this in terms of the phonetic features of parts of the affixes. Detail description of the morphology of English is provided and covers types of morphemes and their allomorphs, derivational and inflectional morphology, word-formation processes, and lexicon as the repository of words in a language.

Course Requirements
There will be no make-up tests. Adjustments (through make-up tests) will be made for tests missed ONLY for reasons of serious emergencies (family deaths, hospitalizations, etc.,) and ONLY with written documentation. Students must be present at tests.

Grades: Continuous assessment: 40% Final exam: 60%
