Applications of separation science and mass spectrometry. Mass spectrometry-based metabolomics for food, environment, and diseases (honey classification, bilharzia, malaria, HIV/AIDS) aiming for biomarker discovery for use to fabricate point of care (POCT) devices including biosensors for smartphone technology. The goal is to be able to fabricate diagnostic tools for diseases especially neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). These efforts are pursued in parallel with method development in separation science and mass spectrometry. Development of analytical methods with potential for application in therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) and pharmacokinetic profiling of drugs of interest in the SADC region i.e. ARVs, malaria drugs etc.
