While in the UK, Dr Motshegwa has worked on European Union funded projects and has had a research fellowship at British Telecom's Adastral Park research and innovation laboratories (BTexact technologies) in Ipswich, UK at the Intelligent Business Systems Group. Dr Motshegwa also had the opportunity to work for British Energy based at the Heysham 2 Nuclear power Station in Lancashire, UK.

 Dr Motshegwa is involved in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) regional project on a collaborative framework for High Performance Computing and Big Data adoption. He is working in SADC Task forces for Research & Development, Human Capital Development, Infrastructure, Policy Engagement,Communication and Awareness, Resource mobilisation and Strategic Partnerships in HPC. In this area, Dr Motshegwa is involved in the Establishment of a High Performance Computing As-A-Service at UB that will evolve into a Nataional Reference HPC center. 

Dr Motshegwa is also involved in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Collaborative framework on Indigenous Knowledge Systems and involved in Knowledge management and recordal systems and Intellectual Propety task forces Dr Motshegwa is also interested in Open Innovation, Technology Transfer and Capacity Building. He is currently the leading the Southern African Innovation Support Program (SAIS) sponsored project on the Establishment of National Technology Transfer Offices in Botswana in collaboration with the Botswana Innovation Hub. Dr Motshegwa is a also championing local grassroots Innovation movement and is keen on mentoring young innovators and organising technical and innovation capacity building events. 

Dr Motshegwa provides oversight over The Botswana Google Developer Group and the Botswana innovators forums. Dr Motshegwa is leading the establishment of University Of Botswana Mobile Computing Research And Innovation Laboratory (MCRIL) to provide a resource and interaction space for innovators.
