Resilience-Building for Education and Climate Learning, Adaptation, and Innovation in Mitigation (RECLAIM)

Principal Investigator

Project Start Date: 01/01/2026

Project End / Expected Completion Date: 31/12/2029

RECLAIM promotes climate resilience, inclusive education, and employability in Sub-Saharan Africa by enhancing higher education and expanding access to learning in underserved communities. The project aligns with the Joint Africa-EU Strategy (JAES) and EU-Africa priorities for green transitioning, inclusive education, and sustainable development. It also aligns with the Global Gateway Flagship Projects by focusing on human capital, digital, and climate resilience dimensions that support national and regional investment strategies. RECLAIM will support the modernisation and harmonisation of African HEIs, fostering cross-border academic recognition through micro-credentialing, and structured mobility pathways. The project builds on ten micro-learning challenges using gamified and AI-adaptive tools to enhance climate education and digital competencies.

It will establish four climate education hubs across the African partners and deploy eight mobile learning labs to expand equitable access to learning in rural and undeserved communities. Four Pan-African conferences and five policy roundtables will strengthen academic-industry-policy collaboration on climate education, digital learning, and green skills. The project will produce five research articles and five policy briefs for evidence-based policymaking. Sustainability is ensured through institutional embedding, policy impact, and anticipation of green skills needs within higher education systems, reinforcing Africa-Europe HEI cooperation and long-term climate education impact.
