The scarcity of water resources in Botswana has resulted in the implementation of alternative aquifer management strategies such as artificial recharge. This study is undertaken to determine the groundwater resources and suitability of the Thagale river basin to be used for managing aquifer systems i.e., usage for groundwater storage. The proposed study area is one of many locations in consideration to be used as an artificial recharge zone. This study describes the interaction between the surface and groundwater systems, the type of aquifers within the Thagale river basin and their distribution, hydraulic properties, productivity, and chemistry, and recommends based on the results obtained from the study, its suitability for managing aquifer recharge.
