This study explored Botswana school children's knowledge about ultraviolet radiation (UVR) and its effect on human beings, with a view to sing the extent of this kowledge to determine progress made in creating a scientifically literate society in Botswana. 760 students across the botswana school system were investigated. Exploratory factor analysis showed four indicators of knowledge about UVR. MANOVA analysis showed that groups of students performed differently depending on the school type, type of science pursued at school and/or the gender of the students.Results show rhat student's knowledge about UVR was limited. It is concluded that more should be done to enable science education curricula to address issies such as the one investigated in this study.
