This study seeks to explore employers‘ expectations on skills perceived as essential for future employees in the hospitality industry. A questionnaire-interview survey with an intensity purposive sample of 57 supervisors and managers from 8 hotels in Gaborone and Greater Gaborone was undertaken. Results indicate that employers have very high expectations of University of Botswana‘s interns. Employers expect interns, amongst others, to possess ‗knowledge on the realities of the entire industry, products and services‘, ‗be caring and empathetic to their guests‘ and ‗to be able to work as part of a team‘. These attributes are consistently rated as being the most important to effective performance in the industry. Such findings could inform future curriculum design at the University and at similar institutions offering hospitality management programmes in Botswana.
