This chapter examines the court interpreting practice in Zimbabwe’s multilingual courtrooms, focusing on advancements and areas for further development in terms of training and professionalisation. Data for the study, which were collected through document analysis, interviews with senior court interpreters, university lecturers, and language rights activists, were analysed using Nancy Fraser’s Social Justice Theory. Using this theory, the researchers were able to investigate how an interrogation of issues concerning training, resources, and professionalisation of court interpreting practice can enhance access to justice in Zimbabwe’s judicial system. Issues raised in the chapter include the need for pre-service and in-service training for court interpreters, courtroom accessibility, improvements in the work environment, and professionalisation. The chapter is therefore of interest to the government, law enforcement agencies, and those interested in practical interpreter training, skill development, and continuous training, all of which are demanded by Zimbabwe’s multilingual courtrooms.
