With a focus on Botswana, this chapter examines media diversity in a developing country context. The case study describes a situation in which a government captured the national broadcaster, and fewer privately owned insignificant commercial broadcasters have resulted in the lack of diversity of information and opinions on television in Botswana. For media diversity to thrive in the Global South, this chapter concludes that governments should lessen control of national television service. There should be diverse television encouraging diverse public ownership of commercial channels, both governments and the local private sector should co-operate, for example, in enabling equipment sharing between government-funded national broadcasters and privately owned channels. © The Author(s) 2021.
