Design is the main anchor for technology education and creativity is an integral element in design. Design is essentially a creative activity. The study adopted an indigenous cultural focus on analyzing Botswana and South Africa technology education curricula on the depth and breadth of the design content. It was discovered that the two curricula lack the creative methods content area that can assist students to design creative and innovative solutions. This robs students of their creative genius. Evidence from the literature shows that creative methods can be taught to stimulate creative thinking provided there is a conducive environment. In order to address the aforementioned deficiency, the study proposes the teaching of the following creative methods in design which may draw from students’ cultural foundation: bisociation, analogy and metaphors. Moreover, the study has developed the concept of innovation inspired by indigenous knowledge and culture (culture-orientated creativity and innovation). Schools should create a conducive environment that allows the teaching of creativity to facilitate student creative development and thus equipping them with vital lifelong learning skills.
