The department is mandated with the duty of ensuring that it attracts and retains the best employees. It has to ensure that international workers are taken care of from the recruitment stage up to their arrival in Botswana so that they can adapt smoothly into the local environment. The Office of International Education and Partnerships administers and manages exchange students and visiting scholars. The office liaises with the HRM department in order to ensure that all international staff and exchange students have the necessary permits to stay in Botswana. The university has developed and designed policies and programmes that guide the recruitment and employment of international staff including administration of visiting scholars and exchange students. In addition to existing policies, managers in the human resource management department and the international office use government laws and regulations which were designed to guide the employment and engagement of foreign staff and students
